Founded in 2006 with the aim of preserving and promoting the moral legacy of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation of Italy is a nonprofit that seeks to carry forward the vision of its namesake, for a fairer, more inclusive world that respects fundamental freedoms and offers opportunities to all.
In pursuit of these aims, RFK Italia develops and organises educational programmes and advocacy projects to raise public awareness of vitally important issues such as human rights, gender equality and the fight against discrimination. One of the most impactful programmes is "Speak Truth to Power", an educational project for schools that draws on stories of courage and resilience by activists worldwide, to show students how they can understand and defend human rights.
The programme Bobby's Dream, on the other hand, aims to benefit the most vulnerable sections of the population. The project offers not only job-specific training, but also basic life skills and knowledge of important topics such as workers' rights, financial education, first aid and workplace safety. Another key project is the "Robert F. Kennedy Prize for Human Rights", which recognises individuals and organisations committed to defending basic human rights, by supporting their work and amplifying their message.
